September 28, 1988 Dear Chris, Although we 've never met, I 'm using the familiar salutation because, after reading your reflection in the summer 1988 issue of Restoration & Management Notes, I feel as though I know you; at least, we seem to share a worldview. This would not have been the case four years ago, for while I certainly "knew " about environmental problems, I never really "understood" them, at least not in the sense that you expressed so well.
… The purposes of this letter are to thank you for writing your reflection, to share these ideas [omitted here], and, most importantly, to solicit your wisdom on what to do. Thanks again for your inspiration. With best regards, Sincerely yours,
D.M. Mog
